I checked out GreenPrint today. I heard about them while watching Cnet TV as I ate my lunch today at work. The idea of using less paper is appealing and of course cost saving. So I assumed it would be free, after all many things much more complicated than a new font, and a something to trim off excess pages are free.
However Green Print isn’t free at all. It seems that a home version costs about $35 a pop, the enterprise license seat costs $70 each. Oh yeah, and this “amazing” font costs $10, maybe at least that should be free. This strikes me as crazy expensive; yeah they plant a tree for every copy the sell. But what does that cost? Less than a dollar I would think. It seems as though this should be something that is free, or at least costs only a few dollars for a copy. It should probably be a non-profit with different corporate sponsors. I’m sure many companies/individuals would be perfectly happy if GreenPrint followed the donationware software type.
I mean, what have they really developed? Not too much. Yeah they are a “green” company, but why does this cost so much? Oh wait, maybe it’s b/c they can produce a few metrics to make you feel better about all the useless crap you have to print.
Am I so wrong for being suspect of GreenPrint? It seems like they green that they are primarily concerned with is what is in my pocket.
No thank you, I’m perfectly happy using my Arial Condensed font at 10 point.
