Before I dived into the world of Windows Vista, I had been using ZoneAlarm firewall and I was quite pleased with it. However it wasn’t available for Vista when I first switched over.
I tried the newest version of ZoneAlarm right when it became available for Vista. When I installed it I got a blue screen of death. Luckily Vista automatically makes a restore point anytime you install new software. I had to boot-up in safe mode and restore my computer using the restore point. This worked perfectly (thank you Vista).
This brings me to my point, I tried again to install ZoneAlarm (the free version mind you) today which is about a month or so after the initial release. I again had the same blue screen of death.
I would strongly advise anyone running Vista to hold off on using ZoneAlarm.

Exactly the same thing happened to me. Does anyone have any other suggestions for free firewalls, or how to get around this problem?
